Hillsboro Luxury Beach House with Atlantic Ocean View

Friday, September 11th, 2009 | Dream Homes | No Comments

This immaculate Hillsboro Beach residence with a view of the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway in Florida may be way out of pretty much everyone’s price range at 42 million, but it is still fun to take a peek. This luxury seaside estate featured in the May 2005 Architectural Digest was designed by internationally renowned Legoretta + Legoretta with interiors by Chicago-based Gregga Jordan Smieszny, complemented by masterful layered gardens by landscape architect Fernando Caruncho. This alluring 2.8 acre Hillsboro Beach estate resides between 232 feet of coveted Atlantic beachfront and 250 feet on the Intracoastal with deepwater dock. The amenities included are to numerous to name but many are featured here in the stunning photos. My favorite is the gridded window wall facing a tranquil reflecting pool that runs up to the face of the house. Redmond Street Houses by Bojan Simic

Thursday, August 6th, 2009 | Dream Homes | No Comments

The site at Redmond Street is uniquely perched on top of a land crest that descends rapidly towards the Yarra River and Studley Park in Melbourne’s inner eastern suburb of Kew. The symmetrical footprint is divided into two zoned wings, one for parents and one for children. The central spine accommodating the living zones unites the two wings via frameless glass links. The pavilion inspired houses are nestled into the tiered natural land form and characterized by large expanses of glass providing thermal insolation and balanced natural light to interior spaces along with elevated views of surrounding parkland and distant cityscape. The projecting blade-like skillion roof form provides passive thermal control to interiors during the summer months as does the curved timber batten screen which softens the sharp geometric lines of the exterior composition.

Colorful Interior Design : Bloom House by Greg Lynn Architects

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009 | Dream Homes | No Comments

Greg Lynn Architects has designed his first commissioned residential project ‘The 4,200-square-foot Bloom House’ that was build for a film and television director. Bloom house is a great example of a colorful home interior which is decorated using unusual minimalist furniture. This first physical realization of Lynn work is especially impressive when judged by interior spaces, which employ deliberately distorted surfaces. These undulating surfaces appear everywhere, from the walls, to the furniture, to the lighting fixtures. The interior is stark and white, with bright pops of color in the form of artwork and furniture upholstery. Lynn managed to create an intriguing piece of architecture that shields its true nature from the casual passerby. The only hint is part of a curved, yellow fiberglass light fixture that illuminates the porch. The fixture continues inside and, in following the nature of the house, expands into an intricate sculpture.
